Rumours of Schumacher's imminent retirement have been dismissed |
Michael Schumacher is likely to retire from Formula One racing after his contract runs out in 2006, according to his manager. But Willi Weber says there is no truth in rumours the Ferrari driver will quit at the end of the current season.
"You can put that one in the realm of fairy tales," Weber told German newspaper Die Welt. "There's nothing to it."
Speculation about Schumacher's future is gathering pace as he close in on a sixth world title.
And Weber admits the German is close to calling it a day.
"Ferrari has to think about what will happen next when Schumacher's contract runs out in 2006, that Michael will retire is pretty certain," said Weber.
When Schumacher does finally quit, there will be plenty of candidates to succeed him at Ferrari.
Renault driver Fernando Alonso is one of the favourites.
The 22-year-old Spaniard won the Hungarian Grand Prix this season and is regarded as a rising star in the sport.
