Jordan admits Heidfeld interest
Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld looks dejected at the German Grand Prix
Heidfeld has suffered a miserable season
Jordan Formula One team boss Eddie Jordan has admitted he could recruit German driver Nick Heidfeld for next season.

Heidfeld is with Sauber this season but is set to lose his seat after claiming just just two points in this year's drivers championship.

One of Jordan's current line-up, Giancarlo Fisichella, and Ferrari test driver Felipe Massa are set to arrive at Sauber for 2004.

"Heidfeld is always an option," Jordan told the Die Welt newspaper. "If Sauber do not want him then he is welcome here."

Jordan has been in talks with Mercedes about a new engine for 2004, worth an estimated $10m (6.7m) per year, which could tempt Heidfeld to Jordan.

"I have spoken with Mercedes and they appear to have the best conditions," Jordan added.

Heidfeld's compatriot and team-mate Heinz Harald Frentzen is also counting down the days to a departure from Sauber.

Despite a bitter departure from Jordan in 2001, he has also been linked with a return to the team.
