Wilson moves to Jaguar

Wilson looks set for a move up the grid
British Formula One driver Justin Wilson has completed a dream move to Jaguar from Minardi.

The 24-year-old will replace Brazilian Antonio Pizzonia for the rest of the season, starting at the German Grand Prix on 3 August.

"Agreement has been reached with Minardi to allow Justin Wilson to complete the 2003 season with Jaguar Racing," a statement said.

"This is an agreement for the remainder of the 2003 season only, with options for future years that provide Jaguar Racing with additional choices for 2004."

Wilson, who made his F1 debut with Minardi this season, will be team-mate at Jaguar to Australian Mark Webber, who Wilson beat to the Formula 3000 title in 2001.

Pizzonia, 22, is also a rookie and has had a torrid time at the Ford-owned team this season, being consistently outperformed by Webber.

Jaguar tried tried to replace him as far back as April with McLaren's Austrian test driver Alexander Wurz.

"Antonio Pizzonia has not been able to realise his potential with the team over the past 11 races," said Jaguar.

"Jaguar Racing therefore has decided that it is neither in his best interests, nor in the team's, for Antonio to continue driving as full time race driver at this time.

"In an effort to continue supporting Antonio's development, Jaguar Racing has offered him the opportunity to remain with the team as reserve and test driver."

Minardi boss Paul Stodddart - who has seen Renault's Fernando Alonso, Webber and now Wilson move on to bigger things - is to replace Wilson in Hockenheim with Dane Nicolas Kiesa, winner of the Formula 3000 race in Monaco this year.

Stoddart said: "It is a great opportunity for Justin," said Stoddart. "He has been rookie of the year this season.

"I just hope he gets time to feel comfortable in the car because it does take a few races when you switch teams before you start producing results.

"I think he and Mark Webber will make a great partnership. They got on well together in F3000, they're friends and that will be good for team morale."
