Martin has a lot of pressure on his shoulders as Ford's team leader |
Ford showed their faith in Markko Martin's ability by opting to make him their lead driver for 2003 and dropping the more experienced Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz. Martin is highly rated by all who have come across him, and he is said to have a cool head on young shoulders as well.
He has impressed in 2003, winning two rallies and setting numerous fastest stage times, and has done little to undermine impressions that he is a champion of the future.

He had already proved he had the pace - he was often a match for McRae in 2002 and briefly led the British Rally. This year he has built on that, driving some excellent rallies, and he might well have had more wins if the Ford had been a little more reliable in Germany and New Zealand.
