Hakkinen may do more rallies
David Coulthard teases Mika Hakkinen at the Monaco Grand Prix about the amount of weight he has put on while away from F1, as Kimi Raikkonen looks on
Hakkinen (centre) quit F1 to be with his family
Double Formula One world champion Mika Hakkinen could do more rallying if he does well in the Arctic event in Finland next month.

The Finn, F1 champion with McLaren in 1998 and 1999, said he would consider doing more rallies if he finishes in the top two.

"Let's see how this rally is going to go. It will definitely give me more of an idea for what it feels like," said Hakkinen.

"If I am in the top two, then probably I will do more (rally driving)," Hakkinen told the Reuters news agency.

Hakkinen made his retirement from F1 official in July, after initially saying that he was taking a sabbatical when he stepped down from McLaren at the end of 2001.

Hakkinen admitted that he had become too aware of the risks in the sport and wanted to spend more time with his family.

The 34-year-old will drive a Mitsubishi Lancer in the Arctic Rally in the north of Finland on 24-25 January. The rally begins and ends in the town of Rovaniemi in the Arctic Circle.

Hakkinen tested the car in Rovaniemi on Wednesday and is planning one more day of practice before taking a break for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He will return for more training in January.

The Finn said he had had a great time with the team and enjoyed the driving.

"I had plenty of time to just spin the car and try the limits. It was a good day today," he said.

"This car feels fun to drive because you have very long metal spikes in the tires so we were able to maximise a very fine grip on the ice.

"It is really interesting to push the car to the limit and go maximum sideways on the ice."
