F1 set for further cuts
FIA president Max Mosley
Mosley would like to see further cuts in F1
Motor racing boss Max Mosley has warned that Formula One will have to continue its cost-cutting measures if it is to attract new manufacturers to the sport.

New rules designed to cut engine costs have been introduced by the FIA, the governing body for motorsport.

We've not been as successful as I would like us to have been at getting down the costs
Max Mosley

Teams have also discussed changes to technical regulations which could see them using the same gearboxes or other parts, saving millions of pounds from development budgets.

But Mosley believes further steps are necessary if they are to convince interested parties like Audi and General Motors to make the move into F1.

"I think we may see other manufacturers coming in, but I think that depends very much on getting the costs down," said the FIA president.

"We've not been as successful as I would like us to have been at getting down the costs. The problem has been to get agreement among the teams.

"If it goes on getting more and more expensive then I think manufacturers that are not currently in it will be inclined to say it's perhaps not as good value as they would like.

"And maybe even one or two manufacturers that are in it might stop."

It would take a major manufacturer several hundred million pounds to get into the sport, plus a yearly budget of around 100m to compete with the likes of Ferrari.
