![]() | Button waits to hear on future ![]() Jenson Button enjoyed more success in Brazil Jenson Button's Formula One future is likely to be decided at Silverstone in July. The 22-year-old has shown a great improvement in his performance this season after a disappointing 2001, earning praise from Renault boss Flavio Briatore in the process. Briatore has hinted that he would like to see him remain with the team next year. But the final decision will ultimately rest with the Williams team, to whom Button is contracted.
But with Ralf Schumacher tied to Williams until the end of 2004 and the team also having an option on Colombia's Juan Pablo Montoya, it is likely that Button could extend his stay with Renault. Briatore earmarked the British Grand Prix as a likely date when a decision will be made. "It is very difficult now to say what will happen in 2003 because Williams have the option on him," said Briatore, who signed Button on a two-year loan deal from last season. "When we arrive in Silverstone then maybe we will decide something." Lack of focus Briatore admitted he had been harsh on Button during the 2001 season. The youngster struggled to match the promise shown in his debut season when he scored 12 points driving for Williams. The Renault supremo put that down to a lack of focus on the job and questioned his work ethic, but said he has seen a dramatic change in his attitude this year. "We have a different Jenson this year, he has changed completely, he concentrates - he is fantastic. "We have a very good driver and he has done a great job." |
