"But at the end not many drivers have won more than 50 races and I will be one of them."

In fact, only Prost and Schumacher have achieved that mark. The next most successful driver in terms of wins is the late Ayrton Senna, who won 41.

Schumacher's win at Magny-Cours, his fifth this season after 10 races, also puts him on a seemingly unstoppable course to equal Prost's mark of four world drivers' championships.

Only Juan Manuel Fangio, of Argentina, has more, with five, won in the 1950s.

No other driver has more than three.

Schumacher last month extended his Ferrari contract until the end of 2004, which gives him plenty of time to smash all the records in F1.

But Schumacher claims that breaking records does not motivate him - he simply wants to continue dominating F1 with Ferrari.

"Records are something nice to look back on when you are retired," Schumacher said. "Our only focus is on the fight that is in front of us - that is the main thing."
