Practice for the 2009 Isle of Man TT officially got underway on Saturday after a 40-minute delay caused by cattle at the Ballacrye section of the course
In near perfect conditions the newcomers were led on a controlled lap, led by TT liaison officer and former winner Richard 'Milky' Quayle, followed by the solo machines and sidecar outfits
Ben Wylie, James Ford, Adrian Clark and Steve Mercer went first with Americans Scott Jensen, James Vanderhaar and CR Gittereclose behind along with Marc Fissette, Luis Carreira and Japanese rider Yoshinari Matsushita
Although the session was untimed, speed traps at Sulby and the TT Grandstand gave an indication of speeds. At Sulby, Australian Cameron Donald was the quickest, recording a top speed of 187.5 mph
Donald's TAS Suzuki team-mate Bruce Anstey was third quickest, just behind Steve Plater with Manxman Conor Cummins and Adrian Archibald also posting impressive speeds
John McGuinness showed he is still the man to beat by recording the fastest time at the TT Grandstand. McGuinness clocked up 174.3 mph closely followed by Ian Hutchinson and Guy Martin
In the sidecars, Manx duo Dave Molyneux and Dan Sayle were the fastest pair at the Grandstand recording 132.7 mph with Greg Lambert and Dipash Chauhan the quickest at Sulby recording 174.3 mph. The next practice session will take place on Monday
