Franchitti has a fine track record in Indianapolis |
Scotland's Dario Franchitti will start Sunday's Indianapolis 500 on the front row after a fine display in qualifying for the prestigious race. Franchitti, the 2007 winner, is third on the grid behind pole-sitter Helios Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. Castroneves, a two-time winner of the Indy 500, enjoyed a four-lap average speed of 224.864mph. The 33-year-old Brazilian has just returned to motorsport after being acquitted of tax evasion charges. It was Castroneves' third pole at Indianapolis, and gave his team boss Roger Penske a record 15th pole at the Brickyard. Franchitti's four-lap average speed was 224.010mph, while Briscoe's was 224.083.
