Ulsterman Adam Carroll is being tipped as a future Formula One star after helping Ireland lead the A1GP series.

The Portadown driver is 13 points clear of Switzerland's Neel Jani who is the defending champion.

"This is the best opportunity I have ever had," said Carroll who has already test driven for two F1 teams.

"The team has put in so much hard work and deserves to be leading. We have to keep it up and to win the championship would be fantastic."

Carroll and Ireland lead the series having won races in China, Malaysia and New Zealand.

And team boss Mark Gallagher's vision is to bring a series race to Ireland.

"Can you imagine it, a Grand Prix-style street race in Belfast or Dublin?" he said.

"When you consider the success of the North-West 200, a motorcycle road race, and how popular rallying is in Ireland.

"I think a Monte Carlo-style motor race in the streets of a city here would be terrific."
