Double disappointment for Smith

Wolverhampton's Dean Smith was left cursing his luck last weekend as two retirements hit his hopes for the Eurocup Formula Renault Championship.

In the first race at the Hungaroring in Hungary, the 20-year-old suffered a puncture in the opening lap and finished well down the field.

Things did not improve in the second race when he was forced off after a collision while in seventh place.

"I must be the unluckiest guy at the minute. I'm really fed up," Smith said.

Despite his frustration, Smith is trying to stay upbeat about the weekend.

"We've got to remain positive," he said

"I know we could've achieved a couple of points this weekend, even though we didn't have the quickest car."

"We need to find more speed from the car to qualify higher. It felt very good to drive but over a lap the raw pace isn't there."

There is now an eight-week break before the next two rounds of the Championship at the famous Nurburgring in Germany on 30 & 31 August.
