Wheldon is fourth in the overall standings |
British driver Dan Wheldon was denied victory by his New Zealand team-mate Scott Dixon in the Firestone Indy 200. Defending IndyCar Series champion Wheldon was on pole in Nashville and led for 115 laps, but his attempt to pass Dixon on the final lap failed.
Current series leader Sam Hornish Jr, who was targeting his third consecutive win, crashed on lap 129 and was 14th, his lowest finish of the season.
Scot Dario Franchitti, who won the race last year, was sixth.
Wheldon, who drives for the Chip Ganassi team, is fourth in the overall standings with 300 points, 16 behind leader Hornish Jr.
Dixon, the 2003 series champion, is second on 311, with Franchitti in seventh on 203.
The Nashville Superspeedway is the only concrete track on the IndyCar Series schedule.
