Clarke moves to the US after racing in F3 last year |
Britain's Dan Clarke has secured a drive in this year's US-based Champ Car series with the CTE Racing team. The Yorkshireman, 22, hopes to follow the example of Juan Pablo Montoya and Jacques Villeneuve, who both graduated to Formula One from Champ Cars.
Clarke made his debut in Formula Three last year and will become the third English driver in Champ Cars, after Justin Wilson and Katherine Legge.
Clarke said: "I feel have the hunger to succeed in the championship."
The new season gets underway in two weeks' time at the Toyota Grand Prix at Long Beach in California.
Clarke completed a two-day test under the watchful eye of CTE team owner Keith Wiggins last week at Florida's Sebring International Raceway.
And Clarke admitted: "It's been a nailbiting few weeks, there have been quite a few drivers vying for Champ Car drives.
"I thought I might be out of contention as I'm much younger, and don't have as much experience, but these two factors probably helped me in the end."
