Plato won the BTCC four years ago |
Seat have confirmed their future in the British Touring Car Championship by announcing that driver Jason Plato will lead their 2006 challenge. Seat were unhappy with technical regulations last season but have stopped short of pulling out.
The Spanish manufacturer named Plato as their main driver, but have yet to declare his team-mate.
"The new Seat Leon looks fantastic and I can't wait to get my hands on it," said Oxford-born Plato.
"The more I see of the car the more convinced I am that it's a winner."
Plato, now based in Monaco, was BTCC Champion in 2001 and for the last two years has raced in the series for the Seat Sport UK team.
In 2004 he won seven races and finished third overall, while in 2005 he took three victories on his way to fourth in the final standings.
"On a personal level I'm working hard on my fitness, I've stopped smoking and I'm going to come back leaner and meaner.
"We're only racing for one reason and that's to win it, and I hope the BTCC is ready for us."
