Herta edged out English team-mate Dan Wheldon |
Andretti Green Racing's Bryan Herta took pole for Saturday's Indy Racing League Indy 200 in Phoenix, Arizona. Herta, 34, clocked 176.612mph in a Dallara/Honda to edge out team-mate Dan Wheldon of England.
Brazilian Helio Castroneves was third in 176.081mph, with South Africa's Tomas Scheckter fourth and Scotland's Dario Franchitti fifth.
Wheldon won the first race of the season in Miami to set an IRL record of eight consecutive top-four finishes.
"The car is very strong. We put up a very good time and had a great open test here, so I'm looking forward to the race," said Wheldon.
"We're all very competitive and have different strategies, but that will make it fun for the race, for sure." Yorkshireman Darren Manning was 11th for Ganassi Racing.
