 Scheckter was in impressive form for Panther at Homestead |
South African Tomas Scheckter will start the first race of the Indy Racing League season from pole position. Scheckter lapped his Panther Racing Dallara-Chevrolet in 24.852 seconds at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, 0.1secs quicker than Vitor Meira's Panoz-Honda.
Scheckter's Czech team-mate Tomas Enge was third, ahead of 2004 Indy 500 winner Buddy Rice, Scotland's Dario Franchitti and American Scott Sharp.
Penske drivers Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr were seventh and eighth.
Danica Patrick, the only woman in the IRL field, was ninth fastest in her debut race.
