Rossi has tested twice for Ferrari |
Ferrari have confirmed that they want to give motorcycling champion Valentino Rossi his Formula One debut in 2007. Michael Schumacher's contract with Ferrari expires at the end of 2006 at the same time as Rossi's MotoGP deal.
"We'd like to have him with us, because we believe the Ferrari-Rossi pairing is very alluring," Ferrari director Ross Brawn told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It depends on him. If he wants to seriously begin a career in Formula One he will have to undergo tests."
Ferrari denied media speculation that a 40m deal had already been struck.
"We have not yet discussed a programme of tests - let's wait until he wins the MotoGP title and then we'll see," said Brawn.
Ferrari have hired Felipe Massa to replace Rubens Barrichello as their second driver for next season.
His contract also expires at the end of 2006.
