Ex-Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell is returning to racing 10 years after his retirement to join the new Grand Prix Masters circuit. The 52-year-old, who won the F1 title in 1992 with Williams, will make his first appearance in the inaugural race in South Africa on 13 November.
"Since winning the title and retiring, I've spent valuable time with my family," said the Briton.
"However, the hunger and desire to go racing never leaves your blood."
Mansell has agreed to a three-year deal as a driver and ambassador for the new series.
The series will also feature former world champions Alain Prost, Emerson Fittipaldi and Alan Jones.
Riccardo Patrese, Rene Arnoux and Andrea de Ceasaris will also compete, racing in identical 600 brake horse power cars.
All the drivers will be 45 or over with up to 16 identical cars, capable of speeds in excess of 200mph, set to race at the former Grand Prix venue of Kyalami in November.
The dates and venues for five races for the 2006 championship will be announced soon.
