Good day for Kagayama
British Superbikes

Kagayama in action
Yukio Kagayama delivered again at Oulton Park, with a win and a second place in Sunday's two British Superbike races.

The Japanese Rizla Suzuki rider had clocked the fastest-ever lap at the Cheshire circuit in qualifying on Saturday.

And he held off team-mate John Reynolds to take the honours in race two after claiming second spot in the first.

That was won by Steve Plater on a Honda, with Ducati's Sean Emmett third behind Kagayama.

Reynolds's second place in race two closed the gap slightly on runaway championship leader Shane Byrne, who has now 365 points to his rival's 237.

Kagayama's first and second took him to fourth in the standings on 214, 12 points behind Michael Rutter.

British Touring Cars

Vauxhall had a mixed weekend at round seven of the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.

James Thompson finished second to Paul O'Neill in race one while Yvan Muller fought back from fifth on the grid to finish third for a Vauxhall one-two-three.

But championship pacesetters Thompson and Muller both suffered engine difficulties in the evening race and did not finish.

Thompson, the reigning champion, now trails Muller by 13 points in this season's standings.

He was mystified as to what went wrong in race two when he was dogged by problems on the final lap as Honda's Matt Neal triumphed.

"This was a complete turnaround of fortunes from the first race, and rare for VX Racing," said Thompson.

"I heard a noise on the penultimate lap and felt vibrations, and then the engine just left me. I'm gutted."

Neal's win keeps him third in the championship 106 points, 57 behind Muller, while O'Neill is fourth on 102 points.

The next round of the championship is in two weeks' time at Brands Hatch.
