Tracy takes the chequered flag for his first win in Toronto
Cart

World Series leader Paul Tracy continued his domination of Cart as he led the 112-lap Molson Indy Toronto from start to finish.

It was his fourth win of the season and his first ever victory in his home town.

Driving a Ford/Lola, Tracy took his 23rd career chequered flag by a comfortable 4.533 seconds over Michel Jourdain of Mexico.

The 33-year-old became just the third driver to win the Molson Indy Toronto from pole in its 17-year history.

Others to have done it are Michael Andretti, who claimed one of his seven Toronto wins from the pole in 1991 and Cristiano da Matta, who also led from start to finish last year.

Bruno Junqueira of Brazil was third, followed by rookie Frenchman Sebastien Bourdais and Oriol Servia of Spain.

Nascar

Ryan Newman outmanoeuvred Kevin Harvick to win the Tropicana 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday.

Newman and Harvick both went to the pits for fuel on lap 198 of the 267 lap race, hoping to take on just enough to make it to the end of the race.

But Harvick's car ran out of fuel with three laps to go leaving the way clear for Newman to take the fourth victory of his career.

"He had a fast race car and I was really worried about him until he ran out of gas, said Newman

Tony Stewart, who started from the pole, too second place and finished 3.177 seconds behind Newman.

"I think we had the fastest car in the race," said Stewart, who led a race-high 80 laps.

"We were proving it at the end with our lap times, but it was just a case of scenarios.

Bobby Labonte's car catches fire

Hendrick Motorsports team-mates Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon finished third and fourth while Michael Waltrip finished fifth, followed by Jeff Burton and Robby Gordon.

On lap 214, Johnny Benson and rookie Casey Mears collided, prompting a five-car crash that ended with Bobby Labonte's car engulfed in flame.

"I'm fine," said Labonte. "They just had a big incident there ahead of us - I thought I could make it to the outside, but all the safety stuff worked pretty good."

Dale Earnhardt Jr ran with the leaders for most of the race, but lost control on lap 208 and backed hard into the wall.

In the overall standings, Jeff Gordon moved past Earnhardt into second, coming within 165 points of Matt Kenseth, who was a lap down in 12th. Earnhardt fell to third, 258 points behind.
