Euan Burton and Sally Conway are two of seven Scottish-based fighters to have been included in the British Judo team to travel to the World Championships.

The British Judo Association will send a 20-strong team to Tokyo next month, when Conway will aim to build on her fifth-place finish in her last outing.

Seven team members train at Judo Scotland's National Centre at Ratho.

The others are Kimberly Renicks, Sarah Clark, Sarah Adlington, James Millar and James Austin.

Sportscotland's national high performance judo coach, David Somerville, said: "I am very pleased for the athletes selected and all of them should be proud of their achievement.

"Moving towards 2012, it is now important players demonstrate the ability to produce world-class performances on the world stage."

With one eye on the London Olympics, nine members of Patrick Roux's squad are 23 or under, while 10 fighters will be making their debuts.

Burton was the 2007 bronze medallist at the championships and he leads the men's challenge when he competes in the under-81kg discipline.

Margaret Hicks, British Judo's performance director, said: "We had some good performances in the Grand Slam in Tokyo at the end of last year and we have built on this experience to ensure our players are used to competing and training in Japan."

Missing from the squad, however, are under-100kg star Peter Cousins and West Lothian's over-100kg talent Chris Sherrington, both of whom are carrying injuries.
