BBC Sport Online introduces you to to the BBC's award-winning athletics team.

Brendan Foster MBE

Brendan Foster's athletics career saw him compete in the 1970 Commonwealth Championships in Edinburgh (15,000m), the 1974 European Championships (5,000m) and the 1978 Commonwealth Championships in Edmonton (10,000m).

He also set two world records for the 3,000m (1972 and 1974), competed in three Olympic Games, and claimed Britain's only track and field medal at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.

In 1980, Brendan retired from active athletics and his career as a commentator began shortly afterwards.

Brendan's enthusiasm for sport takes up a large part of his spare time, and aside from athletics he is a keen football fan.

Brendan was awarded the MBE in 1976.

Steve Cram MBE

Steve Cram was one of the world's most successful middle distance athletes.

In a career spanning three decades, his many achievements include six gold medals at Commonwealth, European and World Championship level and a silver medal at the Olympics.

In 1985 he broke world records at 1500m, 2000m, and the mile all within 19 days; the latter lasted almost nine years.

A year later he was awarded the MBE.

Steve began working in broadcasting in 1995 as an athletics commentator for Eurosport and then Channel Four before joining the BBC.

He has been a regular contributor to BBC Five Live including hosting the popular 606 and Sunday Sport programmes.

Steve also presented a series on The History of Athletics.

Life outside broadcasting has seen him sit on the English Sports Council as the Minister's Nominee and a member of the former Northern Council for Sport and Recreation.

In May 2000, he was also appointed Chariman of the English Institute of Sport.

Like Brendan he is an avid football fan and watches Sunderland whenever work commitments permit.

Stuart Storey

Sydney 2000 represented Stuart's seventh Olympic Games as a BBC commentator.

Stuart has also covered seven World Championships, seven European Championships and five Commonwealth Games for the BBC.

He has worked on extensive Grand Prix coverage for 27 years, beginning with the original Coca Cola meetings at Crystal Palace in the early 1970s.

A talented sportsman, he won the All England Schools Hurdles title twice, and held the British record for 200m hurdles.

He represented Great Britain in the 110m hurdles at the 1968 Mexico Olympics and competed in the same event at the 1969 European Championships and the 1970 Commonwealth Games.

Paul Dickenson

A former discus and hammer thrower, Paul Dickenson represented Great Britain in the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Games.

His first appearance for BBC TV was commentating and reporting on the 1990 Commonwealth Games and since then he has been a regular voice in BBC TV's athletics commentary team, specialising in field events
