Ivanisevic: I'm playing for myself

By BBC Sport Online's Saj Chowdhury at Wimbledon

If Goran Ivanisevic wins Wimbledon then not only will people be celebrating on the streets of Croatia but also on the streets of Britain.

Ivanisevic's quarter-final win over Marat Safin was greeted with a 2001 trademark stripping off of shirt - much to the delight of the adoring Centre Court crowd.

"I love the feeling of being on the Centre Court, and I think the people in this country love what I do when I play. I'll be asking for a British passport soon," he said.

Ivanisevic has been showing little respect for his sponsors by ripping his shirt off at the end of each victory, but he has an idea which might placate them.

"Maybe I should make a tattoo 'Tacchini' if they pay me enough."

'Play for yourself'

The Croatian has been a Wimbledon finalist three times, and believes that this may be his best chance to finally lift the men's crown, because he is "playing for himself"

"When I began my career, my sister was very sick. I played for her to raise some money," he said.

"Then the war came and I played for the people who were fighting for my country.

"After that I had to find somebody to play for, but I couldn't.

"So I said, 'Man, after 12 years on the Tour, I think you deserve to play for yourself a little bit'."

The British public will certainly not mind Ivanisevic taking that single minded approach - the only thing is that he now plays Tim Henman in the semi-final.
