![]() | Wimbledon is smiles better for Henin ![]() Henin is in her second Grand Slam semi in a month By BBC Sport Online's Steve Cresswell at Wimbledon The fact that Jennifer Capriati is powering her way towards completing a third leg of an amazing sweep of the Grand Slams will be lost on Belgium's Justine Henin. The number eight seed has her own objectives, which more importantly than avoiding defeat in her second successive Grand Slam semi, involves enjoying the experience of being in the last four. Henin began the year ranked at number 45 on the women's Tour. At Wimbledon last year she was as low as 100. But the 19-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable year that has peaked in the past month with a semi-final appearance at Roland Garros and victory in Rosmalen. Her quick and comprehensive dismissal of Conchita Martinez, to follow victories over fellow seeds Anke Huber and Lisa Raymond and grass court specialist Kristie Boogert has kept her in the hunt at SW19.
"So I will go on the court to win and do my best." And Henin believes her disappointment in the French Open, when losing to fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters, will benefit her. "I will be the outsider, so I will have nothing to lose in the semis of Wimbledon. I will have a different approach from the French. I will not have a lot of pressure on me." The backhand of the slightly built girl from Marloie has been one of the shots of the tournament, earning plenty of envious looks from opponents. But Henin has an all-round game that is developing quickly and she has plenty of time to utilise it to the full. "It's the beginning of my young career. I'm only 19, so I have a lot of years to achieve my goals and go a long way." Those who think that Capriati, having overcome Serena Williams, has simply to turn up on Centre Court to book another final appearance are in for a shock. And if Capriati believes that fact then she is in for the biggest shock of all. Players such as Martinez do not lose 6-1 6-0 on grass unless there is a real talent on the other side of the net. |
