Lions roar at SW19
Lleyton Hewitt
Hewitt: "I am sure the boys will bounce back"
By BBC Sport Online's Steve Cresswell at Wimbledon

The first Saturday of Wimbledon saw many stars from the rest of the sporting world descend on Centre Court.

The likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Bobby Robson, Darren Gough and a number of Britain's Olympic gold medallists took their seats in the Royal Box.

And much of the action that was afforded to them was provided by Australian duo Lleyton Hewitt and Pat Rafter.

Fitting really on a day when Australia's rugby stars had been beaten by the British and Irish Lions to make the major sporting news of the day.

The result was announced to the Centre Court crowd just before Hewitt took to the arena for his match with Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco.

And while many voiced their approval at the result, those dressed in the gold and green sat motionless, for a moment at least.

Toby Barnett, originally of Melbourne, but now living in London was defiant in true Aussie style.

"That result may have gone against us but Pat and Lleyton will do the business here and just wait for the cricket. You'll all quieten down then."

Lets hope Goughie heard that.

The result was also not lost on Hewitt, who was asked after booking his place in the last 16 whether he had seen the action from Brisbane.

"I saw some of it," admitted Hewitt. "Rochey (Tony Roche) was in the changing rooms crying and every time I came in he was going nuts.

The Lions were just too good, too big and too strong for us, but we'll be back, don't you worry
  Pat Rafter

"It was a bit disappointing but I'm sure the boys will bounce back."

Hewitt was also informed that his Australian Rules Football favourites the Adelaide Crows had been beaten as well.

"At the least the one result then," sighed Hewitt, referring to his 7-5 5-7 6-4 7-6 defeat of the Moroccan.

And Rafter, who also watched the match, said: "I was bloody nervous for the boys."

But he admitted that the Lions were "just too good, too big and too strong for us, but we'll be back, don't you worry."
