![]() | Agassi and Hingis ahead ![]() Agassi (r) is at number one despite his semi-final loss Andre Agassi and Martina Hingis top the latest world tennis rankings after varying fortunes at Wimbledon. Agassi has regained his lead in the ATP Champions Race 2001 despite losing to Patrick Rafter in the semi-finals. The American has 574 points in the latest standings released on Tuesday, 84 points ahead of Brazil's Gustavo Kuerten, who missed Wimbledon. Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain is third with 466 points following his surprising performance at the All England Club, where the clay court specialist reached the third round. Goran Ivanisevic's men's singles win lifted the Croatian a massive 73 spots to tenth, while Rafter, the losing finalist, moved up three places to sixth.
Wimbledon quarter-finalist Marat Safin of Russia has moved one place up to second, followed by Agassi and Australia's Lleyton Hewitt, who lost in the fourth round at Wimbledon. British number one Tim Henman is up to eighth after reaching the semi-finals, and Greg Rusedski, is at number 19. In the WTA rankings, Martina Hingis still holds a commanding lead over Venus Williams despite her first round exit. The Swiss start has 5,577 points, 980 ahead of Williams, who successfully defended her Wimbledon title on Sunday. Jennifer Capriati, whose Grand Slam dream ended in the semi-finals, moved from fourth to third, swapping places with Lindsay Davenport. Wimbledon vice-champion Justine Henin of Belgium is fifth. |
