Awesome Venus into third round

Williams showed her class after the break
Venus Williams (US, 2) beat Daniela Hantuchova (Svk) 6-3 6-2

Venus Williams used all her power to overwhelm Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets.

The 21-year-old defending champion endured a couple of tricky moments but showed maturity to power her way to an ultimately convincing victory.

But her Slovakian opponent showed enough during this rain affected match to suggest she will be a force in later years.

Although Williams took the first set 6-3, there was much more to it than the score suggests.

Daniela Hantuchova showed much promise
The American took the first break to go to 3-1, but was immediately broken back as the 18-year-old responded with hard hitting of her own.

But at 4-3 down, Williams showed her experience of playing in tight matches by breaking again and this time holding her serve for the set.

"In the first set I had a lot of opportunities, but I wasn't capitalizing. I was just kind of rushing," said Venus.

Williams broke in the third game of the following set before rain interrupted the match.

The resumption saw Williams streak away, winning three games on the trot.

I think I'm setting up well, moving my feet well, I think I'm serving quite well also
  Venus Williams
Hantuchova showed significant steel to hold her own serve at 5-1 down and after getting two break points in the next game, she seemed poised for a mini revival.

But Williams used the power of her serve to save those breaks and finish the match with an ace.

And she believes she is going to find her best form at the crucial time of the tournament.

"I'm not that far away at all. I just think at times - I think I'm setting up well, moving my feet well, I think I'm serving quite well also.

"But sometimes I'm just a little bit off with my shots, the contact point.

"Really it's not about who's playing the best, it's about who's making the decisions at the right times, who's playing the right points well."
