Rafter books third-round spot
Pat Rafter
Rafter took a while to find his form
Number three seed Pat Rafter made hard work of his 7-5 4-6 6-4 6-1 second-round win over Czech Slava Dosedel.

The Australian looked a shadow of the player he is on grass, and had his serve broken in the first game.

Rafter bounced back to break the world 102 twice to save face and win the opener.

But the Australian was put on the back foot yet again and the Czech held firm after breaking his opponent to level at one set all.

Thomas Enqvist
Enqvist had little trouble
Rafter, who was making a number of unforced errors, fought back well to win the third set 6-4 before wrapping things up in style to win the fourth 6-1.

Elsewhere there was disappointment for Britain as both Arvind Parmar and Jamie Delgado were knocked out by their superior opponents.

Parmar was beaten 6-7 6-3 6-3 6-1 by seventh seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia, while Delgado suffered at the hands of the number two seed Andre Agassi, going down 6-2 6-4 6-3.

Tenth seed Thomas Enqvist cantered to a 6-2 7-6 6-1 victory over Stephane Huet of France.

Number 24 seed, Frenchman Nicolas Escude also had an easy win over India's Leander Paes.

Fellow Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean displayed his prowess on grass by beating Rainer Schuttler (Ger) 7-5 6-2 7-6.

Hicham Arazi, who is seeded 27th, proved that he was the king of tie-breaks against Belgian Olivier Rochus, winning all three 7-6 7-6 7-6.

Countryman Younes El Aynaoui faced a stiff test against Swede Andreas Vinciguerra, but came through it to win 6-1 6-4 7-6.

Two other seeds Fabrice Santoro (20) of France and German Nicolas Kiefer (19) also booked their passage to the third round.

Santoro beat Max Mirnyi of Belarus, 7-6 6-1 6-4, while Kiefer defeated Dane Kristian Pless, 7-6 6-2 6-4.
