![]() | Rusedski canters to Black win ![]() Rusedski's fastest serve was clocked at 135mph Second round: G Rusedski (Gbr) bt B Black (Zim) 6-1 6-3 6-4 Greg Rusedski says his new relaxed approach to life helped him destroy Zimbabwe's Byron Black in straight sets The British number two made it clear that he believes last year's horror season, when injury saw him struggle to stay within the top 100, is fully behind him. "I am much more relaxed now and just enjoying my tennis," said Rusedski, who did not lose a point on his own serve until the third game in the second set. "After a year like that, when I had a hell of an effort to stay at 69 in the world, with all the doctors visits, my approach to life is a little different. "And I am now fighting fit."
He looked at the top of his game, remodelled over the last 12 months to take less strain of his frame. "The scientific changes were really my last option and fortunately for me it's worked. My physiotherapist, Ryan Kendrick, and Brad Langevad, have done a really good job. "As a result I am hoping to get another three to five years out of tennis." Black put in shade The Briton certainly looked in awesome form as his serve and forehand return subdued Black from the very start. And he revealed afterwards that his new laidback style extended off the court too. "In the past I'd go out of the media conference and glue my eyes to the BBC coverage until it finished. Now I intend to just chill out, watch a movie, maybe go out for a meal with friends. "I think you can get too much tennis." Whatever his new strategy it certainly seemed to work on Wednesday. He unleashed a barrage of fast swerving serves, reaching speeds of 135mph, which left his opponent often rooted to the spot. Hard yards Once he broke Black in the third game - there was no looking back. The predominantly partisan Court Two crowd were treated to another two breaks of serve in the fifth and seventh. After Rusedski won his first service game in the second set, the last thing that Black would have wanted, was to be broken in his first. But that is what happened and the writing was once again on the wall. Black finally won a game on his serve in the sixth but by then it was too little too late. The third set was slightly more even, although Rusedski did the hard work in the first game - breaking Black again. By that time, Rusedski had decided to setlle on winning his game by going on serve. He now faces either Australian Jason Stoltenberg or Juan Carlos Ferrero in round three. |
