Walsh leaves door open
Courtney Walsh celebrates a wicket with his teammates
Courtney Walsh would go to Zimbabwe if needed
Courtney Walsh has offered his services to West Indian captain Carl Hooper - but only in crisis.

The world's leading wicket-taker indicated his 132nd Test match might not be his last after Hooper made a personal appeal for him to be available for the tour to Zimbabwe in June.

"He (Hooper) has asked me to think about it," Walsh said.

But if West Indies got into a crisis, I wouldn't say no if there was something to be done

"He says I shouldn't rule it out and it's only fair to think about it. I will think about it.

"But as far as I'm concerned I had intended for this Test to be my last and there's no reason to change my mind."

The Jamaican said he would only consider a return to international cricket in extreme circumstances.

"At this point in time I don't think I will go to Zimbabwe," he said.

"But if West Indies got into a crisis, I wouldn't say no if there was something to be done.

"Let's just hope there isn't a crisis!"

But despite talk of a potential return, Walsh paid glowing tributes to the dozens of fast bowlers who have helped him to reach his world record tally of 519 Test wickets.

The late and great Malcolm Marshall in action
Malcolm Marshall was singled out by Walsh
"Playing alongside people like Michael Holding and Colin Croft, Curtly Ambrose and Sylvester Clarke are memories I will always cherish," said Walsh.

"One special guy who stands out is Malcolm Marshall, sadly no longer with us.

"I want to thank all the guys I played cricket with - the fast bowlers - from Joel Garner right down to Kenny Benjamin, for all the assistance they gave me in my career."

Walsh said he was now looking forward to spending some time off the cricket field.

"I reflected yesterday that I want to have a break away from the game - six months or something like that - and spend some time with the family.

"I want to do some of the things that I haven't had the chance to do before, recharge my batteries and then focus on the next phase of my life."
