South Africa celebrate Carl Hooper's downfall

Hooper's first series as captain has been a disappointment with West Indies already 2-0 down.

It prompted team management to introduce fines for dropped catches and poor shots.

Hooper is likely to be among the first to suffer after being caught in the deep after opposite number Shaun Pollock posted two fieldsman for the hook shot.

"It's not something that's going to work overnight. It's something that will only work over time and I'm sure we'll get an improvement, especially on the soft dismissals.

"Funnily enough, just after implementing it, I go and play a shot like that, but that's the way the game is," he said.

"It's the first really rash shot I've played the whole series and I've paid a heavy price for it.

"With the sytem we now have, when you play shots such as mine, you get fined. It's as simple as that."

West Indies made two changes to their batting line-up with Marlon Samuels and Leon Garrick taking over from Ramnaresh Sarwan and Wavell Hinds.

Sarwan is suffering from a stress fracture of the left thigh and has been advised to rest for four weeks.

The wickets were shared between Pollock and fast bowler Allan Donald, who missed the fourth Test due to injury.

He removed Garrick with his first delivery but said: "I started off feeling very lethargic.

"When I switched ends before lunch I started hitting my straps, picked up a couple of wickets and I felty better and better as the day went on."
