West Indies celebrate Nicky Boje's wicket
South African captain Shaun Pollock has urged his side to show a ruthless streak in order to wrap up a series win in the fourth Test against the West Indies in Antigua.

The tourists hold a 227-run lead after three days with six wickets left and no side has ever scored more than 250 for victory in the fourth innings at the Recreation Ground.

Pollock, however, is taking nothing for granted and will not turn his mind to a declaration until he has seen how his batsmen progress in Monday's opening session.

"You can't worry about past history and all that stuff. Records are actually made to be broken so to worry about stats is dangerous," Pollock commented.

"We have to give ourselves time, but what is enough time to bowl the West Indies out? 130 overs? 100 overs? You don't know until you get out there and try to do the job," he said.

South Africa only managed 122 runs in 76 overs on Sunday as West Indies skipper Carl Hooper opted for defensive fields.

"I think we bowled really well in the morning to wrap up the West Indies innings as early as we did.

"Obviously when we were batting it was quite difficult to score with such defensive fields and we were looking to set a total so that we can bowl them out," said Pollock.

"It's a difficult situation. When you've got bowlers who can put the ball in the right area and make it difficult, it's tough."

Pollock defended his decision to promote left-hander Nicky Boje to number four in order to counter leg-spinner Dinanath Ramnarine.

It was a move which backfired when Boje was dismissed second ball by Hooper.
