| McGarrell shines for Windies ![]() Herschelle Gibbs was South Africa's best batsman Fourth Test, day one, Antigua: West Indies v South Africa WI 210-7 at close Click here for scorecard Neil McGarrell made a stunning Test debut as West Indies reduced South Africa to 210 for seven at stumps on day one of the fourth Test in Antigua. South Africa captain Shaun Pollock led a late fightback for the tourists in the final session, scoring 36 not out alongside Nicky Boje, who finished the day with an unbeaten 29. But the left-armer's four-wicket haul left the Proteas struggling as the hosts went in search of the win needed to square the series.
West Indies made two changes to their side with McGarrell replacing fast bowler Cameron Cuffy and Shivnarine Chanderpaul taking over from Marlon Samuels in the middle order. South Africa included all-rounder Justin Kemp with Allan Donald absent because of a hamstring injury. Gary Kirsten was McGarrell's first victim in the 18th over of the day when he mis-hit the ball to mid-on and Jacques Kallis was bowled off the inside edge by Mervyn Dillon five balls later. Gibbs fightback In the last over before lunch, third Test century maker Daryll Cullinan edged Dinanath Ramnarine to Brian Lara at slip as the tourists slumped to 53 for three. After the interval Herschelle Gibbs combined with Neil McKenzie (35) in a 67-run stand for the fourth wicket, before McGarrell turned the game back in the home side's favour. The 28-year-old dismissed McKenzie, Lance Klusener and Mark Boucher for 16 runs to finish with figures of four for 57. South Africa, who lead the series 1-0, were dealt a further blow just before tea with opener Gibbs taken by wicket-keeper Ridley Jacobs off home captain Carl Hooper, only 15 runs short of his century. Jacobs dived forward to take a superb catch when Gibbs gloved an attempted sweep shot after hitting two sixes and 12 fours in his 188-ball innings. However, the Proteas controlled the final session with both Pollock and Boje batting sensibly. Boje should have gone when he had made 24, however, with Lara flooring a chance at first slip after Courtney Walsh found the edge of his bat. It was the second catch to go down during the day with short leg Wavell Hinds failing to hang onto a bat-pat opportunity offered by Cullinan during the first session of play.
