Ridley Jacobs was understandably elated after becoming the first West Indian to score a Test century against South Africa.

It was also the Antiguan's maiden hundred in Test cricket and included four sixes and 11 boundaries.

"Having been stranded in the 90s twice, it's good to get out of them and score a hundred.I'm very happy," he said afterwards.

His unbeaten 113 helped his side reach 387 all out, just 67 behind on first innings, and he then took a catch as the tourists were reduced to 52 for three by close of play.

"They are very good bowlers. They come after you. I like the challenge. This is Test cricket and you have to be at your best at all times.

"That's the way it is. It is a hard game and you have to be tough," Jacobs went on.

The West Indies vice-captain was dropped at slip when he had made 56 and enjoyed another huge slice of luck just three runs short of his century when he appeared to edge a Makhaya Ntini delivery but none of the South Africans appealed.

Kallis fills Donald gap

Asked whether the ball had made contact with his bat, Jacobs admitted: "Well, yes, it's a possibility, but I'll leave everything up to the umpires."

All-rounder Jacques Kallis was the pick of the South Africa attack and his figures of six for 67 were his best in Tests.

"With Allan (Donald) not there today, it became my job to try and wrap up the tail and it was nice to come through and do it," he said.

A draw appears the most likely outcome on the final day, a result which would suit South Africa, who lead the series 1-0.

"I think both sides will go into the last day thinking they've got a chance of winning it, which is fair enough with 90 overs left.

"But obviously we would'nt have wanted to lose as many wickets tonight so we could perhaps have a dart on Monday morning and send the West Indies in," Kallis added.
