![]() | SA collapse gives Windies hope ![]() Ridley Jacobs secures maiden Test century Day four, third Test, Barbados: West Indies v South Africa SA 454 all out & 52-3 WI 387 (close of play) Click here for scorecard Ridley Jacobs hit a maiden Test century as West Indies were bowled out for 387 on the fourth day of the third Test against South Africa. But then an uncharacteristic collapse by South Africa gave West Indies a glimmer of hope in Barbados. The tourists ended the day on 52-3 - an overall lead of 119 at the Kensington Oval. Earlier wicket keeper Jacobs became the first West Indian to score a century against South Africa. Jacobs has been left stranded in the 90s twice in his career but he made certain it would not happen again with two mighty blows that cleared the ropes and brought up his century. Celebration Jacobs struck his landmark score off 161 deliveries and it included 10 fours and four sixes. He launched a short ball from left arm spinner Nicky Boje over square leg to reach 96 before scrambling a single to bring up 97. The first two deliveries of Makhaya Ntini's next over were played to fielders but the third appeared to take the edge of the bat and carry to wicket keeper Mark Boucher.
Neither appealed though and Jacobs celebrated by hoisting the fourth ball high into the Hall and Griffith stand at long leg to reach his century. Afterwards Jacobs said: "It's a very good feeling when you score your first hundred. "Having been stranded in the nineties twice, it's good to get out of them and score a hundred. I'm very happy." The West Indian vice-captain had advanced to 113 when last man Courtney Walsh was yorked by Jacques Kallis for four. South Africa started off their second innings badly when Gary Kirsten completed his first "pair of ducks" in 71 Tests off Cameron Cuffy's bowling. Herschelle Gibbs soon followed for 19 and Neil McKenzie was caught behind for 12. It left Daryll Cullinan and Jacques Kallis to bat out the rest of the day, which finished 15 minutes early because of bad light. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Other top West Indies v South Africa stories: Links to top West Indies v South Africa stories are at the foot of the page. | |||
