South Africa captain Shaun Pollock scored his second Test century to put the tourists firmly in command against the West Indies at the end of day two of the third Test in Barbados.

Pollock arrived at the crease immediately after lunch with the Proteas seven wickets down at 307, having lost two wickets in quick succession before the interval.

He hit an unbeaten 106, including 13 fours, and was ably supported by Allan Donald.

So used to combining as a team with the ball, they paired up superbly with the bat, adding 129 for the ninth wicket to keep the tourists in control of the match.

Donald played a responsible role, scoring 37 and ensuring Pollock dominated the strike.

Daryll Cullinan, 108 overnight, took his score onto 134 before becoming the first man to fall on Friday, and Nicky Boje (34) went to the last ball before lunch - both wickets claimed by Mervyn Dillon.

Last man

Lance Klusener was bowled by Courtney Walsh for one, but then came the Pollock-Donald domination.

Walsh also accounted for Donald, caught by home captain Carl Hooper, and Matheya Ntini was the last man out for South Africa, caught and bowled by Dinanath Ramnarine for a duck.

Walsh finished with three for 87 from 45 overs - the most he has ever bowled in one Test innings in his 130-match career, while Dillon collected figures of 4-154.

Wavell Hinds and Chris Gayle successfully negotiated a potentially tricky four overs from Donald and Pollock at the end of the day.

The West Indies will begin day three on seven without loss, needing 255 to avoid the follow-on.
