Day Three, Bridgetown:
West Indies Board XI 186 and 84-1
South Africa 271 & 143-2 dec

Match drawn

South Africa's three-day warm-up match against a West Indies Cricket Board XI ended in a draw on Monday.

The tourists, preparing for the third Test, resumed their second innings at the Kensington Oval on 29 without loss, an overall lead of 113.

However they showed no ambition to set a realistic target for the home side to chase and declared on 143 for two.

The match finished with the Board XI on 84 for one chasing an unlikely 228 in a maximum of 38 overs.

Gary Kirsten (26) was the first wicket to fall when play began in the morning session.

Sensible

He attempted a cover drive off left arm wrist spinner Dave Mohammed, but succeeded only in edging the ball to Leon Garrick at first slip.

Herschelle Gibbs completed an unusually tame half century from 125 balls before edging a cut off at slip to depart for 55 from 139 deliveries with seven fours.

Boeta Dippenaar's attempts to push for a Test place were not harmed by an assured 38 not out.

But the man whose place in the middle order he is competing for, Neil McKenzie, once again found timing difficult in a scrappy innings of 15 not out from 69 deliveries.

Shaun Pollock's declaration finally came just before tea.

And with no prospect of scoring at six runs an over in the final session, Board XI openers Daren Ganga (33) and Garrick (28) batted with sensible caution to post 55 for the first wicket.

Garrick then mistimed a hook off Andre Nel and was caught at square leg, leaving Shivnarine Chanderpaul (20) to play out the match with Ganga.

The third Test in the five-match series, which South Africa lead one-nil, begins at the Kensington Oval on Thursday.
