![]() | Afridi back for Pakistan ![]() Afridi: Almost 2,900 one-day runs for Pakistan Big-hitting Shahid Afridi is to join the Pakistan squad for the forthcoming one-day series against England and Australia. The 21-year-old scored 102 off 40 balls in a one-day game against Sri Lanka in Nairobi five years ago. He is also a useful leg-spinner and took five for 40 against England in Lahore last year. Afridi, opening batsman Imran Nazir and off-spinner Shoaib Malik will replace Imran Farhat, Mohammad Wasim and Mushtaq Ahmed following next week's second Test at Old Trafford. The legality of Malik's bowling action was questioned during the Sharjah Cup tournament, but he can continue playing because he had not been reported to the International Cricket Council before.
There is no place, however, for former skipper Moin Khan, who was discarded following the tour of New Zealand earlier this year. "Naturally I am disappointed, but it is not the end of the world. "I believe I have a lot of cricket left in me and that's the driving force which keep me pumping to work even harder," Khan commented. Pakistan will also be without fast bowler Mohammad Sami, who was ruled out of the one-day competition earlier this week because of a shin problem. Sami is regarded as one of Pakistan's brightest prospects after taking eight wickets in his debut Test against New Zealand earlier this year. "We want him to completely recover from the injury before stepping back onto the field," said Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Tauqir Zia. |
