Charvis' match made in heaven
Wales and Lions flanker Colin Charvis
Flanker Colin Charvis is delighted at his two-try debut in a Lions shirt and eager to be involved in Saturday's match against the Queensland Reds.

Let me tell you how it feels to score a try for the Lions. Fantastic!

I was ecstatic when I knew I was coming on this tour and then I felt even more excited when I thought about pulling on a Lions shirt.

But to actually go over for a try while wearing that red jersey is just hard to describe.

We have all worked very hard over the past few weeks and living with each other has brought us close together.

Scoring tries is the aim in each game and so when you fulfil it then you feel very satisfied.

It's good to be involved against Queensland Reds, even though I am on the bench

So take it from me, it felt great to bag a couple against the Queensland President's XV on Tuesday night.

All credit to the Queensland side. They made it tough going for us, especially in the first half.

After the break things went much better. I felt our defence was particularly good and we got our patterns of play going in attack.

We scored 13 tries in the end and that was a good effort considering we only had two at half-time.

People have criticised that first 40 minutes and they have a right to do so. Having said that we were never in doubt that we would win, even when it was only 10-6 at half-time.

Headaches

It is always difficult when you play together as a team for the first time. For a lot of us it was also our first match for a few weeks which also doesn't help.

But we played for better field position in the second half and made sure we didn't get isolated.

We got on top and the tries followed pretty regularly after that.

Jason Robinson got all he headlines for his five tries and it was a pleasure to be on the same side as him.

Finishing school: Jason Robinson claimed five tries
He is a very tricky, very elusive runner and he has a bit more gas in his tank than me.

But all the backs played well, especially Dafydd James and Matt Perry.

I think the management are going to have a few headaches when it comes to selection. Nothing is cut and dried as yet.

I feel glad I've fitted in. I've now got to keep my head down and play the way I normally play, rather than try and get away from my strengths.

It's good to be involved this Saturday against Queensland Reds, even though I am on the bench. It is going to be a very difficult match and the management must have thought hard about selection.

If I get on I will just try and play my normal game and hope to remind peole what I can do.

As I say, nothing is written in stone yet. I want a Test starting place and I'll be doing my very best to make sure my contribution is a good one.
