Click here for scorecard Waugh regards victory in India, a feat not achieved by Australia since 1969-70, as the 'last frontier' for his side and is determined to do everything possible to achieve it. India lead by 89 with one wicket left in their first innings following a brilliant innings of 126 by Sachin Tendulkar. But they lost five wickets after tea and Waugh praised the "character" shown by his players. "It was an outstanding day for us. We had two options - let the game slip away or fight as hard as we could. We did the latter," he said.
"If we can restrict them to a 100-run lead and then get 250-300, we've got a good chance. But we've got to get the runs first. "We are playing for a win, not a draw." A crowd of 45,000 was delighted by Tendulkar's innings, which put him level with Waugh on 25 Test centuries. They are joint fifth in the all-time list, just one behind West Indies legend Sir Garfield Sobers and two short of Australian Allan Border. But Tendulkar was angry with himself for getting out when India were in a position to bat Australia out of the game. "Both Rahul (Dravid) and me should have continued because everything was going our way. Losing five wickets in the last session could prove costly. "A century without a win is of no use. But there is turn and bounce in the wicket, which should help us," he said. | |
