Indian pair enjoy batting moment
Sachin Tendulkar
Tendulkar played one of his finest innings
Sachin Tendulkar told Indian debutant Virender Sehwag to "enjoy the moment" at Bloemfontein on Saturday, and the pair combined to put South Africa to the sword.

Coming together as the last recognized batsmen with their side in disarray at 68 for four, the two shared a stand of 220 in just 47 overs.

Tendulkar passed 7,000 runs in Tests as he made 155, and Sehwag became the 11th Indian to score a century in his first Test, with 105.

He's got a good temperament and combined everything really well in this innings

Sehwag's straight drives especially reminded onlookers of the batsman at the other end.

Afterwards, Tendulkar was full of praise for his 23-year-old country-man.

"He batted very well. He has shown he can play shots, he can defend and he's got good temperament. He showed everything today," he said.

"I was tense on my first game and I told him that he was never going to be so tense in his life again so he should get on and enjoy the moment.

"I was sure he would do a good job. He's shown that he can play shots; that he can leave the ball and defend.

"He's got a good temperament and combined everything really well in this innings."

Sehwag was the first Indian to score a century on debut since his captain Saurav Ganguly's hundred against England at Lord's in 1996.

Despite his achievement, he was short on words to describe it, but admitted that Tendulkar had helped him to focus on what he had told himself on the eve of the match.

"I decided to play my natural game and play my shots," he said.

"I prepared myself for today last night.

"I said to myself, 'Watch the ball and play straight and play a long innings,' over and over again before I went to sleep."
