The one-day international at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth - part of the triangular series which also involves South Africa - saw Kenya make 246-6 from their 50 overs. That was in stark contrast to their meeting with India last week, when they were bowled out for just 90. Kenya did not even have their regular captain and key batsman Maurice Odumbe, who was serving the first part of a two-match ban imposed after comments about an umpire. Yet they still managed to dominate the match from the start. Record Their opening batsmen Kennedy Otieno and Ravindu Shah put on a record first-wicket stand of 121. Otieno reached 50 from 74 balls - pulling both Venkatesh Prasad and Sourav Ganguly for six. Then he misjudged a Yuvraj Singh delivery to give Sachin Tendulkar a catch at long-on. Shah fell in the next over, looping an attempted sweep to backward square leg having reached his 50 from 77 balls. When stand-in skipper Steve Tikolo was bowled through the gate by Harbharjan Singh for 27 it looked like the good start would be wasted.
But middle-order batsman Thomas Odoyo made a sparkling half-century off 52 balls - the highlight of which was a straight six off Harvinder. David Otieno then cracked a swift 26 at the death. Paceman Venkatesh Prasad and Harvinder Singh suffered and part-time spinner Yuvraj leaked 44 runs in his seven overs. They had a chance to put that right when they batted. Key wicket But seamer Joseph Angara - in his first match of the tournament - bowled his first four overs without conceding a run. He also took three wickets, including the key one of Sachin Tendulkar, bowled between bad and pad for just three. Two big sixes from Ganguly - the first runs off Angara - threatened to get India going. But a bowling change brought Thomas Odoyo into the attack and he immediately took the first of his three wickets by bowling the Indian captain around his legs. Kenya then struck twice in two balls to remove Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh. Spectacular Jacob Martin and Reetinder Singh Sodhi were consolidating well for India before Sodhi was removed by a spectacular full length, one-handed catch from Collins Otieno at point off an Angara long-hop. Angara celebrated that wicket with another in his next over, bowling Jacob Martin for 36. Kenya put down four catches as they nervously closed in on their unlikely victory. But the upset was completed as Odoyo claimed the wickets of Harbhajan Singh for a breezy 37 and bowled Harvinder Singh for one.
