Newcastle secured their opening Heineken Cup win of the season with a blistering display against Toulouse on Saturday.

Just seven days after going down 33-13 in France, Rob Andrew's men grabbed 13 points in a five-minute spell to leave the French giants floundering.

The Falcons scored 27 second-half points with three superb tries.

Five first-half penalties from Jonny Wilkinson, two of them from 50 metres, gave Newcastle a half-time advantage.

And although two penalties from Frederic Michalak and one from Michel Marfaing kept the French side in touch, Wilkinson's sixth penalty sparked a Newcastle scoring frenzy.

Man-of-the-match Epeli Taione surged out of his own 22 to allow Hugh Vyvyan to dive over.

Wilkinson converted, before adding another three points after Toulouse skipper Fabien Pelous was penalised for kneeing Vyvyan as he scored.

From the line-out the England fly half dropped a goal in the 60th minute to take Newcastle out to 28-9.

And with five minutes of normal time left, Taione broke through again to allow Michael Stephenson to score and Wilkinson to convert.

If that was not enough, in injury time Pat Lam's pass allowed Taione gallop in from 50 metres under the posts.
