| Friday, 28 September, 2001, 21:19 GMT 22:19 UK Heineken heartache for Glasgow ![]() Glasgow and Montferrand fought out a thrilling draw Glasgow 19-19 Montferrand Glasgow suffered Heineken Cup heartbreak as Montferrand scrambled a last-gasp point in the most dramatic fashion. Roared on by a crowd of 5,500, the home side had opened up a 10-point lead - only for two of their players to be sin-binned in the dying seconds and the Frenchmen took full advantage of the ill-discipline by drawing level. James McLaren had the chance to grab the glory for the home team with the last kick of the game. He connected perfectly with the penalty from the halfway line and it was sailing over the bar only for the Montferrand players to form a human ladder to parry it out.
It came when Montferrand's American substitute Kevin Dalzell miscued a clearance straight into the arms of the Cook Islander, who was unstoppable from 10 metres. He completed the job by slotting the conversion from the widest possible angle. Gerald Merceron pulled back three points with his fourth penalty as Glasgow were reduced to 13 men by the sin-binnings of Hayes and substitute Jon Stuart. Then he converted Olivier Magne's touchdown to level the match.
