J Dokic [15] (Yug) beat A Gersi (Cze) 6-0 6-0

Jelena Dokic made light work of her first round match at the French Open.

On the Philippe Chatrier Centre Court at Roland Garros, the number 15 seed swept passed Adriana Gersi 6-0 6-0.

The Yugoslavian played a faultless match and claimed victory in under an hour.

There are some pretty tough matches even before the quarter-finals

Not surprisingly, she seemed very content and relaxed afterwards.

"It was a good match for me to start - I played quite well.

"I tried out everything, it seemed to be working fine."

Dokic won her first WTA tour title only last week in Rome, and with four of the top 10 players already out of the French Open through injury, she seems to be hitting form at the right time.

But, so early in the tournament she was not about to get carried away.

"There's so many players that can win this, and a lot of underdogs as well - I think it's anybody's," she said.

I've worked on every part of my game to really try and mix up everything

"On clay, you never know who can get through. I think there's some pretty tough matches even before the quarter-finals."

But Dokic is certainly confident in her own ability, and the improvements she has made in her game.

"I've worked on every part of my game to really try and mix up everything - my serve, a little bit of everything, it makes a huge difference."

Dokic's father Damir, who acts as her coach, sometimes makes as many headlines as his daughter because of his occasionally abrasive behaviour.

He has just returned from a WTA tour ban, but as long as she keeps winning, Dokic is happy with his involvement.

"When I'm in Tampa training, I have a guy who I hit with. I have a fitness trainer that I work with. That's when I'm not traveling," says Dokic.

"Right now, I don't think while I'm on the road I need anybody.

"I think it's working fine the way it is. If it wasn't then I would change something, but it's going well."

And after this first-round match, Adriana Gersi knows that only too well.
