First Test, Lord's: England v Pakistan

Wet weather in London has wiped out play on day one of the first Test between England and Pakistan at Lord's.

A pitch inspection at 1030BST was called off with umpires Peter Willey and Darrell Hair initially declaring there would be no play until after lunch.

Later at 1345BST, it was announced play had been abandoned for the day.

The delay had given England all-rounder Craig White extra time to prove his fitness but after a brief workout in Lord's indoor school during the hold-up, his injuries were deemed still problematic.

Five-in-a-row hopes

The Yorkshire player had told BBC Sport Online on Wednesday that unless he was 100% fit he would not be play.

White's absence enables his Yorkshire team-mate Ryan Sidebottom to step in for his Test debut.

England are looking to complete a fifth successive series victory for the first time in 30 years after beating Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the winter.

The last five-in-a row success was in 1969-71 when England beat West Indies, New Zealand (twice), Australia and Pakistan.
