Young off-spinner Nathan Dumelow took four wickets to derail Pakistan in their tour match against Derbyshire.

Pakistan had been cruising at 106 for two at lunch, but after the break the 20-year-old Dumelow, playing his first first-class match, snared crucial wickets to scupper the tourists' run charge.

By stumps, Derbyshire still trailed by 30 runs in their second innings with only eight wickets in hand.

Pakistan's demise was prompted by the Derby-born Dumelow who enticed Yousuf Youhana into a false stroke to prompt a rash of wickets.

Trevor Smith and Tom Lungley also got in on the act to threaten to restrict Pakistan's lead to less than 20.

But Azhar Mahmood hit an unbeaten 80 and shared in a defiant 80-run stand for the last wicket with Shoaib Akhtar to take the lead to 96.

Youhana's departure came after he advanced down the wicket, but was deceived in the flight by Dumelow and skied the ball to mid-off.

Dumelow then claimed Inzamam ul-Haq and Abdur Razzaq in the space of three balls to pull Derbyshire back into the match.

Smith also added two wickets, bowling Rashid Latif and then made the promising Faisal Iqbal edge a ball to Dominic Cork at second slip.

Iqbal's accomplished 65 was a ray of sunshine in an innings that was dominated by poor shot selection.

Mahmood and captain Waqar Younis took the tourists into a first innings lead, but Waqar, after an unbeaten 50 against British Universities, did not last long.

Lungley, who had two catches dropped off his bowling in the morning, came on and Waqar sliced a drive to deep gully and he then claimed Saqlain Mushtaq lbw.

Mahmood and Akhtar showed more steel than many of the other batsmen to amass 80 for the last wicket, and when Lungley wrapped up the innings, Derbyshire were 96 runs in arrears.

Earlier, Pakistan, galvanised by a stand of 73 for the second wicket by Imran Frahat and Iqbal, showed little to indicate a collapse was imminent.

They lost Mohammad Wasim and Farhat before lunch and were well placed to push on to a big lead before Dumelow made his mark.

He finished with four for 81, but Derbyshire failed to take advantage of his efforts as Mahmood proved his class to build a handy lead.

Derbyshire's second innings stuttered after Steve Stubbings was run out from a direct hit by Iqbal before Waqar yorked Steve Titchard first ball.

But Mathew Dowman and Luke Sutton saw off the Pakistan attack to reach stumps without further loss.
