![]() | Shoaib reveals new action ![]() Shoaib Akhtar has had to remodel his action Shoaib Akhtar may be forced to abandon his ambition to become the quickest bowler in the world. Shoaib is unlikely ever regain the searing pace of his early days after having to change his action, but Pakistan's bowling coach Daryl Foster believes it need not negate his threat.
The so-called Rawalpindi Express has been forced to rework his action this winter since it was questioned during the final one-day international against New Zealand at Dunedin in February. The new model was unleashed for the first time against Derbyshire on Tuesday. Click here for scorecard Less than 24 hours after arriving in England, he took two for 31 from 12 rusty-looking overs. "His new action is far from being in the groove at the moment and I don't know if he will ever be able to repeat the pace he had," said Foster, the former Kent coach who has been appointed Pakistan's bowling consultant for the tour.
"He might lose a few km/h but I think he'll more than make up for that by putting the ball in the right spot consistently - whether he's bowling at 158 or 150 km/h is irrelevant if he's doing that. "What matters most to Pakistan, and what should matter to him, is that he gets on the field on a regular basis and takes wickets." "They've got experienced seam bowlers like Waqar and Wasim and they need a bowler with some consistency to go with them - and Shoaib can give them that. "It's not up to me but we all agree that it's important for him to be available for selection for the first Test at Lord's because it gives them another option." The Test at Lord's, the first of the two-match series, begins on 17 May. | See also: Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Other top England v Pakistan stories: Links to top England v Pakistan stories are at the foot of the page. | |||||
