![]() | Akhtar raring to go ![]() Akhtar has been dogged by injuries in the past year Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has vowed to be "bad news " for England in the forthcoming Test series despite setting off late to link up with the squad. The 25-year-old left Lahore on Monday after being cleared to travel following what was reported as a stomach disorder. He bowled six overs in a club match last Friday and is hoping to be considered for selection for Pakistan's match against Derbyshire, which starts on Tuesday. "I am fit and in a proper frame of mind," he insisted. Akhtar last played for Pakistan in a one-day international in New Zealand in February but suffered a thigh injury which kept him out of the three Tests. The legality of his bowling action was subsequently questioned for the second time in his career. He travelled to the University of Western Australia for expert analysis and a report by the Department of Human Movement concluded that "unique physical characteristics" resulted in an illusion that he was throwing the ball. Akhtar is desperate to resume a career which has seen him take 45 wickets in 15 Tests, the last of which was against Sri Lanka 14 months ago. "I think this tour will help me put my cricket back on track. "I think I will be more aggressive and fearsome because I will be trying to make up for lost time," he added. If Akhtar does not play against Derbyshire, he will only have one game against Kent, which starts on 12 May, to prove his fitness before the first Test. |
